Children

The educational ministry of our children is central to the life of our congregation. We offer classes from the littlest ones through 8th grade, where each child is welcomed and invited to learn about our great and generous God, based on a Biblical foundation.

Our Church School meets during the worship hour. Following the Children's sermon during the service, the children meet their teachers in their classroom to learn about God. Exploring different stories of the Bible, the teachers use the lectionary-based curriculum, "Seasons of the Spirit," to prepare their lessons. For grades 1-4 the lessons are presented using a rotating schedule where the teachers and type of class instruction change every month. As an example the rotation for a year could include lessons using crafts, cooking demonstrations, and computers. From kindergarten through 5th grade, each grade has its own classroom with at least two teachers. The preschoolers all meet together singing, praying, and story telling, while the 6th and 7th graders gather as one class to study how the Bible is relevant to their lives.

Communion

This church welcomes children to the sacrament of the Lord's Supper. Children are taught the meaning of communion in Sunday school classes. Children stay in worship for communion twice each year. Many will attend with their Church School classes.

Children's Chapel

The Church School program includes Children's Chapel to provide age appropriate worship opportunities for our young people and to share the traditions of our Church. Ages three, four, and Kindergarten attend Opening Children's Chapel (immediately after the children's sermon in worship and before their Church School class). First, second, and third graders attend Closing Children's Chapel at 11:00 (immediately after their Church School class).

Children's Nursery

Nursery care is available every Sunday for the entire worship service. We have two wonderful women (one a registered nurse) and some youth helpers who provide nursery coverage every week of the year.

Puppet Ministry

Another exciting program involves puppets. Church School classes have special lessons that use puppets as the children actively learn and explore their faith. Younger grades often have stories brought to them by puppets, and older grades are the puppeteers themselves.

Vacation Bible School (VBS)

During the summer, the Church offers a Vacation Bible School, which is separate from the Church School program. VBS is open to members and non-members. Specific information including dates becomes available through the Church office by early May.
