Many hands make for light work. The Church and its various activities, programs, boards and committees rely on volunteers to help at various times throughout the year. If you are interested in volunteering, please call the office or stop by to add your name to a volunteer list.
Members of the Church community are invited to serve the Church through the following programs. For opportunities on serving the greater community, visit Helping Others.
The Church community is divided into 21 neighborhoods for pastoral ministry and communication. Each neighborhood has a coordinator who is responsible for keeping the pastors apprised of the needs of people in their neighborhood. The pastors also keep the coordinators aware of needs they perceive, so neighbors can extend support. The neighborhoods gather on a regular basis for fellowship or to give personal response to the direction and ministry of the Church.
Common Meeting Night is held on the second Tuesday of each month, September through June and involves the six major boards (Deacons, Trustees, Christian Education, Missions & Social Action, Music and Growth & Development) meeting simultaneously. Common concerns are shared between the boards. The meeting begins with a brief period of worship presented by one of the boards and a coffee break.
The Church Council is comprised of the moderator (who also serves as lay leader of the Church), the clerk, the pastors, and the chairs of the major boards and committees. The Council provides general leadership for the Church, and coordinates programs and ministries. The Council meets regularly on the third Tuesday of the month, September through June. Members of the Church are welcome to bring concerns directly to the Council at the monthly meetings.
The chairperson of each board and the pastors attends the Council meeting. The moderator leads the meeting and time on each agenda is reserved for any member of the congregation to bring forth concerns that have not been addressed by the appropriate board.
